About Jennifer

Jennifer Pelton PhD Child and Adolescent Psychologist Seattle

Dr. Jennifer Pelton attended Pomona College for her undergraduate education, and received her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia. She completed her child clinical predoctoral internship at Stanford University School of Medicine, and postdoctoral fellowship at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington where she specialized in treatment of eating disorders, depression, and anxiety.

In addition to her private practice, Dr. Pelton worked 5 years as director of a University of Washington depression prevention study for teens transitioning to high school and has been an ongoing instructor of Child Development for the School of Social Work at the UW. In addition to her work with adolescents, Dr. Pelton specializes in working with young adults and into adulthood.

 

Counseling Services

As a psychologist, I have specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents and adults with neurodevelopmental, emotional and behavioral problems. I ensure that evaluation and treatment services are comprehensive, practical and tailored to meet the needs of each client. My treatment approach emphasizes evidence-based practice including 

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy-informed coping and skill building

  • Exposure and Response Prevention

  • School collaboration

  • Parent consultation 

 

Throughout my training in graduate school, to my residency, and in my post-doctoral positions, I have specialized in working with pre-teens, teens, and young adults. As a result, I have an expertise and passion for working with this age group and a humorous, warm, and down to earth style of counseling.

  • Depression and other mood disorders

  • ADHD

  • Emotion dysregulation and self-harm

  • Transitions to high school, to college, and post-college
